What do italian food, viennese jugendstil and down-town Tokyo have in common? Nothing really. But when they come together in the mind of Mr. Matsukawa, the soul and owner of Taverna Gustavino it creates the perfect blend of the above!
As a friend of early Viennese Modernism Mr. Matsukawa selected the design based on Josef Hoffmann’s work for the „Werkbund“ exhibition in Cologne in 1914. Tokyo premisses don’t offer the vast spaces a trade fair offers but we reinterpreted the original design in a series of smaller fixtures, perfect for an exquisite yet tiny italian restaurant.
Whenever you venture there, the prosciutto is the perfect start into an italian evening … that’s amore…!!!
and in between us: don’t you see a bit of Dean Martin there?
