Project Description
Distant prospects – boundaries exist only in the mind
An installation by Sebastian Menschhorn for the Hofmobiliendepot Vienna
The installation was created to complement the major jubilee exhibition focusing on Maria Theresa at the Hofmobiliendepot – Imperial Furniture Collection. As a typical representative of the eighteenth century, Maria Theresa loved all things oriental. In its interiors, lacquer objects and porcelain her epoch created its own carefree version of far-off lands. In his contribution to Vienna Design Week, the designer Sebastian Menschhorn plays with elements and principles of the Rococo: exotic fantasies, the dissolution of mental and physical boundaries, amorphous forms, pleasure and intimacy. Looking outwards and inwards he creates a private microcosm in which far and near merge in the onlooker’s perception.
